Carver Mayor Courtney Johnson
Announces Reelection Bid
CARVER, MINN. (July 14, 2026) – Courtney Johnson today filed for reelection as Mayor of the City of Carver. Courtney has served in this role since 2019, was reelected in 2022, and has been involved in Carver city government for more than a decade, including as a City Council Member and Planning Commissioner.
“I’ve seen firsthand the difference we can make in our community when feedback is welcomed, residents are engaged, and action is taken on their behalf,” Courtney said. “I’ll continue to build on the momentum, success, and positive change we’ve created together for the past eight years.”
During her tenure, Courtney lobbied on behalf of the City of Carver, resulting in $12.75M in grant funding from local, state, and federal sources for the Levee Improvement Project. This project, anticipated to start in the fall, will modernize the Minnesota River levee so it can continue to protect the City of Carver from floods, safeguard homes and businesses, and support continued investment in Carver’s Historic District.
Courtney has also improved transparency and strengthened public understanding of City Council decision-making by increasing communication and providing frequent updates to Carver residents and other community stakeholders. She writes monthly articles for the Carver Connections newsletter, frequently submits letters to the editors of Carver County Local News and Waconia Patriot, and maintains her own mayoral Facebook and Instagram accounts. Soon after being elected Mayor in 2018, Courtney championed the live broadcast of City Council work sessions and their availability on the City’s website, which allows for better insight into why and how decisions are made.
“During my next term as Mayor I will continue to focus on transparent and timely communication, fiscal responsibility, and thoughtful, well-planned growth, while preserving and promoting Carver’s Historic District,” Courtney continued. “We’ve made great progress, but there is still work to be done. I am confident that my experience, relationships and record of results make me the right person to continue leading Carver forward.”
As Mayor, Courtney represents the City of Carver on the Carver Business Alliance, Carver Resident Advisory Group, District 112 Community Leaders, Carver County Mayors, Minnesota Mayors Association, and the Regional Council of Mayors. She is also President of the League of Minnesota Cities board of directors, a nonpartisan membership organization which serves 842 of Minnesota’s 856 cities through advocacy, education and training, policy development, risk management, and other services. In each of these groups Courtney represents and advocates on behalf of the City of Carver, advances opportunities for our community, and builds relationships for a better Carver.
Courtney has called Carver home since 2010. In addition to serving as Mayor, her involvement in the City of Carver includes City Council Member (2017–2018), Planning Commission (2014–2016), Park and Recreation Board (2011–2013), and Steamboat Days volunteer (2012–2016).
A proud St. Cloud State University alumnus, Courtney works as a principal communications consultant for a nonprofit organization with a mission of improving health and well-being for its members, patients, and community.
